Savour Northland will showcase the very best that Northland has to offer with a series of events, showcases and masterclasses held between 4-28 October. These unique experiences and pop-up events weave culture and heritage with culinary skill and the abundance of produce that is grown in Northland.
This bountiful and stunningly beautiful region is coming into its own in terms of hospitality and culinary prowess and it has so much to offer locals and visitors alike. From hearty, casual beachside kai to fine-dining experiences and everything in between, Northland is a special place that will richly reward the visitor who wishes to explore further north.
That the timing of Savour Northland coincides with oyster season is no coincidence as Northland seeks to demonstrate just how special kai moana from the top of the north can truly be. An oyster festival is planned for the Bay of Islands and many of the region’s eateries are expected to hero these jewels fresh from the ocean.
Restaurants and cafés, too, will be taking part in the ‘Savour Northland Challenge’. Kitchens region-wide will compete to create the most impressive culinary creations showcasing local produce or go one step further and include the perfect pairing with a Northland beverage, whether that be alcoholic or otherwise. There will also be a category to represent ‘Northland in a glass’, so get ready for some inspired cocktails and smoothies.
As you eat your fill, be assured that visitors to Savour Northland will not go thirsty. There’s everything from locally grown and roasted coffee to freshly brewed craft beer, and wine made from grapes grown on hillside vineyards overlooking the sea. Not to forget the local distilleries making boutique batch spirits. All of these and more can be found during Savour Northland’s ‘Trip to Sip’ event that will take you on a tiki tour of Northland’s top drops.
Savour Northland is region wide, so if you intend to take a three-day getaway over the Labour Day weekend or plan to have some time away with the whānau during the spring school holidays, Savour Northland has both culinary and cultural experiences waiting for you to enjoy. Whether you plan to dip your toe over the border into Mangawhai or explore way up the glorious far north there is an abundance of events and experiences for you and your loved ones to savour. www.savournorthland.com
