After more than 25 years, this bistro is still serving some of the capital’s finest cuisine. Set in the historic Plimmer House in the central city, it stands tall as an address of enduring comfort and deliciousness. BSB takes you back to the days of fine dining but doesn’t feel fussy or pompous. The nods to past traditions – including white tablecloths and warm plates – are a nice attention to detail. This inner-city Victorian cottage is first and foremost a bistro – steak and lamb reign supreme on the menu – but fish dishes at the hand of head chef John Allred get just as much love (consider our fall-apart fresh pan-fried market fish – kingfish – with white beans, green olives, pearl onions, anchovy and rosemary butter). The octopus entrée was an equally fine treat. Faultless service, an accommodating wine list and all-round comfort offers an assured evening out.
