Travel broadens the mind, and here it has come home to benefit the wider dining populace. Alma grew out of a trip executive chef (and conjurer of great culinary things), Jo Pearson, took to Andalusia a few years back. She has imported her learnings to this Britomart site that’s all warmth and brick-and-tile. It’s bright, bold, exciting and comfortable – in one juicy, delicious, big hit. See the way Jo mixes local tastes and flavours with those from afar: pork pinchitos with pear and coca; mushroom with seksu and picada – everything invites exploration. Note, also, the judicious provision of Spanish wines and New Zealand-grown Spanish varietals, together with Spanish sherries and vermouths. There’s a separate gin list, too. Open from late morning until night, there’s no excuse not to visit and soak up the southernmost Spanish sensations served with such flourish.
